Hello! Thank you so much for viewing our profile. We are Kyle and Colin, a married couple that has been together for over 12 years living in Washington, D.C. and we are looking to expand our family. Colin works on tech policy issues, while Kyle works in business for a federal health agency.
We met in August, 2010. Colin had just returned to D.C., where he grew up, to start law school. Kyle had just arrived in the city from Michigan for a grad school program, and our first date was on Kyle’s second day in the city. We met for drinks, which turned into dinner, and ended up in an 8-hour walking tour of Washington filled with deep conversations. Immediately, we each knew we had found our soulmate.
In Kyle, Colin saw a partner who is kind and confident. Kyle lights up any room he walks in, and is genuinely interested in getting to know others. Kyle is the kind of person who meets almost any situation that comes up head-on with confidence and a huge smile. He will be your biggest supporter, and if he feels that anyone in a room might be feeling a bit down, he will seek that person out and try to make sure they are comfortable. That is the kind and nurturing soul that he is - something that has only been made more clear when he is babysitting his niece Layne, who was born last year.
In Colin, Kyle saw a warm and expressive person who gave out hugs to everyone bringing smiles to every gathering. Colin is a bookworm, reliable, and successful in his studies and career. Kyle often hears banging and beautiful aromas from the kitchen, only to find him stirring his new masterpiece soup or fogging his glasses as he opens the oven to smell his famous mac and cheese. Always the life of the party, Colin is often observed entertaining a small group of family in a riveting story about a book.
One of the first things we bonded over while dating was our shared values. We both love to cook and entertain, though Kyle is far more comfortable grilling for a crowd while Colin would rather be found in the kitchen making a pot pie or other comfort food, especially on cold nights. We are also both adventurous, and love to travel - whether that's locally for hikes in Shenandoah taking in nature, or visiting a city neither of us has seen before. We are both exercise enthusiasts and extroverts that love to be out and about with friends, but that in no way means we don’t also enjoy curling up on the couch on rainy or cold days for a movie or a Netflix binge-watching session.
Our shared values also include our dedication to family and our shared desire to become parents. We got married in 2015 in a ceremony on a DC rooftop officiated by Colin’s father and Kyle’s mother. Family is incredibly important to us both, and it was amazing to have our parents be a part of our commitment to each other. In late 2020, we moved into a home across the street from Colin’s sister and two minutes down the road from Colin’s parents, and we all have routine Sunday dinners. We are constantly surrounded by family, whether it's Sunday dinners at Colin’s childhood home or hanging out with Kyle’s Michigan family, who we see frequently and who have been helping us in our work to turn our new home into a Family Home.
Currently, this Family Home only houses us and our three-year-old calico cat named Anastasia. While little Anya is a gentle and well-loved furball, we are greatly looking forward to opening up our home and hearts to a child. If we are lucky enough to be placed with your child, they will be welcomed into a large and loving family and we can’t wait to share all of our adventures. We would feel very lucky to be seen and selected by you as the family to love and raise your child and would welcome them into our large loving family. We have so much adventure to share with them and hopefully you too - From family dinners to silly presents on Christmas Eve, to just exploring and navigating this world together.
