About Us/Me

We are JP and Jeff. We are so thankful you're taking time to read through our profile. Words cannot express how grateful we are that you may be considering us as adoptive parents. Thank you.

A little about us...

I am JP, short for John Paul. I'm originally from Trinidad & Tobago, which is a really beautiful country in the Caribbean. I grew up there, along with my two brothers and two sisters. I had another sister who, sadly, died when she was an infant. Two years ago, my dad also passed away. My mom, two sisters, and one brother live in our childhood house in a town called D'Abadie, which is not too far from the capital, Port of Spain. My other brother moved to Connecticut, where he lives with his wife and new daughter. I'm a very proud uncle and visit them whenever I can. I love to listen to soca music and cook Trini food to remind me of home. I am close with my family and chat with them very often. I usually manage to visit Trinidad a few times each year. Jeff loves to come too.

I came to the US when I started college at Morgan State University in Baltimore. I studied psychology, and afterward went on to earn my PhD in organizational psychology at the University of Michigan. That's where I met Jeff. After finishing my degree, I got a job at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. I've worked there as a professor in the School of Management for the last ten years. I have a great life here in Cleveland. I love to keep active and fit. I've been weight training for several years now with my friend who is a competative power-lifter. I recently participated in my first power-lifting competition! I go to mass every week at St. Malachi Catholic Church. I'm active in my parish community. Jeff is supportive and comes with me sometimes, especially on holy holidays. My faith is important to me.

I'm Jeff and I grew up in a small town in Michigan. I also have a big family, with a brother and three sisters. My parents and two sisters live in Michigan. JP and I go there to visit pretty often. We especially love going to northern Michigan where we love spending time at the lake and in the outdoors. Most of my siblings have children of their own, and I now have seven nieces and nephews. We love spending time with them.

I went to college at a small school called Kalamzoo College and then to medical school at the University of Michigan. That's where I met JP. We were there together for five years, but our jobs took us to different cities for a few years. He went to Cleveland and I moved to Chicago for my residency training in anesthesiology. I moved to Cleveland about six years ago and I now work as an anesthesiologist at University Hospitals.

After we met in 2005, we fell in love quickly and have been together since. We managed a few years of long-distance relationship and we're really happy to now be settled in Cleveland. We bought a house in a nice, diverse neighborhood here. We are near the lake and love taking our dog Sadie to the beach. We have great neighbors and most days we relax after work with a beer on somebody's front porch or have a campfire in somebody's backyard. We love relaxing on the couch watching movies and TV. We love to read, and one day would love to read Harry Potter a little one, not to mention have an excuse to visit Disney! We work hard at staying active and healthy. We love to bike together, and Jeff loves to run. We enjoying camping and being on the water. We love a good road trip and travel whenever we can!

We come from different backgrounds and we definitely have our own personalities. But we are similar in really important ways. We both value family and friends. We both like to work hard and then enjoy relaxation. And we both try our best to put as much love and positivity out into the world as we can. We like to think we bring out the best in one another. We've worked to create a nice life together, and we'd be so grateful to open our hearts and home to a child.

About You

We already love you and your child. We really do! If you are looking at our profile, we are grateful for the grace and care that went into your decision to seek an adoptive family for your child and led you to us. We both have spent our careers caring for others, whether tending to patients, or mentoring and teaching students. We are at a point in our lives where we are excited to open up our hearts and home to care for a child, hopefully yours! We both have large families that are loving, loud, funny, complicated, and have their own unique struggles. We imagine that you also have a unique story that has led you to this point and we would love to learn more about all the parts of that story, since they have led you and your child to us.

Our goal is to build a life with a child where we can remain connected to you, his/her birth parent, and create a loving, honest space from Day 1. We hope that you will feel the same once you meet us! We know that this process will mean opening up our hearts to both you and your child, since you formed them, and have already shaped them in important ways. You should feel confident that we will nurture your child's connection to where they came from, who they are now, and the limitless future ahead. With love, JP and Jeff.
